Nobel sits on the shore of the sound itself, in the Municipality of McDougall, and it's named after Alfred Nobel, the man who invented dynamite, because this quiet village made explosives through both wars: over 21 million pounds of cordite by the end of the first one, plants running around the clock with 2,000 workers in the second. Later, the engines meant for the Avro Arrow were tested here. Then the Highway 400 realignment bypassed the village in 2010, and Nobel got quiet again. These days it's a year-round place with cottage country on every side, and the work matches: the repair board ($149 call-out, first hour included), renovations with a written quote, junk runs ($249 the half trailer, dump fees in), and watch visits for the places along the water that go dark in October.
Nobel is an easy run from my side of the district, and openings, closings and pressure washing price the same here as on every other page of this site.
